Delving into the complexities of African journalism reveals a challenging landscape. The most prominent news outlets are often beholden to powerful entities, encompassing both influential private individuals and government bodies. Consequently, those who defy these prevailing power structures face unjust persecution. This reality highlights a glaring absence of essential elements such as truth, transparency, and tenacity in the African digital news sector.
In response to this dilemma, a dedicated ensemble of journalists and enthusiastic news aficionados united to establish an independent news platform. This initiative, from its inception, consciously detached itself from the influence of major power entities, instead choosing to emphasize grassroots journalism. This approach brought stories directly from the source, fostering a more authentic and unfiltered narrative.
Operating across four countries, the platform leveraged my expertise in various domains. I applied my knowledge in design, budgeting, project management, and marketing to effectively spearhead this venture. This collaboration not only aimed to reshape the news landscape in Africa but also sought to imbue it with the values of integrity and independence that were sorely missing. The goal was clear: to create a news outlet that truly represented the voices of the people, untainted by external influences and dedicated to the pursuit of unvarnished truth.
